Navigate The Salt Lake City International Airport With Ease
About Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC)
Owned by the city of Salt Lake City and administered by the Salt Lake City Department of Airports, the Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) is located about four miles west of downtown Salt Lake City. SLC is the 25th busiest airport in North America and the 91st busiest in the world. More than 343 flights depart daily to 93 nonstop destinations. Among US airports, SLC was ranked first for on time departures and arrivals and first for percentage of cancellations (the fewest) as of April 2017.
SLC’s story began in 1911 when a site for an airfield was chosen on Basque Flats. It was named for Spanish-French sheep herders who worked the fields in the then desolate area of the Salt Lake Valley, where a cinder-covered landing was subsequently created. For several years, the new field was mainly for training and aerobatic flights. This changed when the U.S. Post Office began using the airport for air mail service.
In September 2020, SLC launched the first phase of its $4 billion redevelopment program. Phase One of the new SLC airport is designed as one single terminal that is set to replace all previous terminals. Concourse A has 25 gates, with 22 more opening in 2024. Concourse B opened in October 2020 with 21 gates. The project is funded by user fees. No local tax dollars are being spent on the project. You can learn more about The New SLC here.
SLC spans over 7,700 acres and has four runways. Airlines at SLC include Aéromexico, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, American Eagle, Delta Air Lines, Delta Connection, Eurowings Discover, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue, KLM, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, and United Express.
Dining and Shopping at SLC
SLC has a host of shopping and dining options, as well as leisure amenities, available to travelers. Find a full list here. As a part of the redevelopment program, The New SLC will feature a variety of food and beverage options, as well as a mix of local, regional, and national stores. SLC Airport also implemented street pricing for shops and restaurants located in the new facilities, meaning that passengers will pay the same price charged at locations outside of the airport. .
Free wireless internet service is available throughout the airport, and power outlets are available throughout the terminal and concourses.
There are three animal relief stations outside security, two near the parking garage across from Terminals 1 and 2, and another located between Terminal 2 and the International Terminal.
The Salt Lake City Airport allows nursing in all public areas. Lactation rooms are located adjacent to the women’s restrooms in Terminal 2, and on Concourse D. Private rooms are located on Concourse G and in the connector between Concourses F and C.
Delta Air Lines' Sky Club is located in the connector between Concourses C and D.
Who says that airports can’t be beautiful? The Salt Lake City International Airport art collection is displayed throughout both terminals. With the STQRY app, you can take a self-guided tour and learn more about SLC Airport’s art collection. Look for signs with a QR code near pieces of artwork to get involved.
